Pastoral Staff
Pastor Pierre grew up in Hong Kong and became a Christian when he was in high school. He later studied at The University of Wisconsin - Madison, majoring in International Relations, and worked as a paralegal upon graduation. In 1999, he was called by the Lord to enroll at Canadian Theological Seminary (now Ambrose University) to complete his Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Ministries. Pastor Pierre has been serving full-time since 2002, first at Scarborough Chinese Alliance Church, followed by North York (Chinese) Baptist Church. He became the Lead Pastor of our Cantonese Speaking Congregation in 2011, and has been our Senior Pastor since early 2018. Pastor Pierre and his wife Wendy have known each other since high school. Together with their 2 sons, they enjoy music, arts, and nature in their leisure time.

Richard Choy was born in Hong Kong, but grew up in Toronto. As a boy, he put his trust in Jesus Christ in 1972. He prepared for full time ministry at Ontario Bible College. Upon graduation in 1986, he interned at his home church, North York (Chinese) Baptist Church, and came on staff the same year. He continues his ministry to English speakers at North York. Richard is married to Joyce and they have three children.

James was born in Malaysia, and completed his law degree in London, England. He was called to the Bar in England and Ontario, and practised law for 30 years. James completed his Master of Theology degree in 2012, and after completing his Master of Divinity studies (majoring in Pastoral Counselling) at Tyndale Seminary in 2022, he followed God’s calling to enter into full-time ministry. James is married to Bernice, and they have 2 daughters, Isabelle and Evangeline.
Joel was born in Hong Kong and became a Christian when he grew up in Toronto. He studied Electrical Engineering in Waterloo and worked in the high-tech sector in Ottawa before returning to Toronto to help plant Logos Baptist Church (York Region). Upon completing his M.Div at Tyndale Seminary at 2009, he continued to serve as the English Pastor at Logos. In 2014, he joined the North York (Chinese) Baptist Church family as the English Speaking Congregation youth pastor. Joel is married to the fabulous and wonderful Jenny. You can find Joel wearing his bow tie on Sundays. He also enjoys photography, backpacking, motorcycling, soccer, and sci-fi.

Rev. Brian Wong grew up in Hong Kong, became a Christian when he studied at Seneca College. He was called to serve the Lord during 1995 East Canada Christian Winter Conference. Later he went to the Tyndale College for university studies, and completed his Master of Divinity degree in Tyndale Seminary in 2011 majoring Pastoral in Chinese Ministry. He interned at Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church and Barrie Christian Community Church. He is passionate at the Youth Ministry; and he also served in Chinese Christian Fellowship in Seneca College and Barrie Georgian College.

Pastor Edmond Chung grew up in Hong Kong and was born in a Christian family. In 2016, he was called to be a full-time minister and studied in Tyndale University for the MDiv in pastoral studies. In 2023, Edmond became the pastoral assistant in NYCBC and focused on the local outreach ministries. He is passionate about mobilizing the brothers and sisters to serve the community and evangelize the non-believers. Pastor Edmond and Charmaine knew each other since they studied in the university. They have 5 cats and 2 dogs at home. He loves to listen to music and podcast in leisure time.
Pastor James Su

Pastor James Su was born in Taiwan and immigrated to South Africa with his parents at the age of 11. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Information System at the University of Cape Town. During his studies, in his second year of university, Pastor Su accepted the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ and received God’s calling, deciding to enter full-time ministry after the age of 30. After graduating from university, he married his wife, Carol Lam, and they started a family business in South Africa. In 2013, Pastor Su left South Africa to pursue a Master’s degree in Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating in 2017 and subsequently entering full-time ministry. He served as a full-time Mandarin pastor in Upstate New York and Boston, gaining valuable pastoral experience in Mandarin-speaking congregations across North America. In 2024, he and his wife immigrated to Canada, where he began pastoring the Mandarin congregation at North York Chinese Baptist Church. In his leisure time, Pastor Su enjoys playing golf, basketball, running, and playing the piano.
Pastor Lionel Lam attended church meetings since his childhood years with his parents, he was baptized and became a Christian at the young age of 17. He studied Civil Engineering in the Hong Kong Baptist College. And he has pursued careers in civil engineering, construction and real estate. Pastor Lionel is married to Ms. Cecilia Chung, and they have raised one girl and one boy. He came to Canada in 1994 and has been attending and serving in NYCBC worship services and ministries since then. In 2007 he was called by the Lord to start his study for the Master of Divinity program in Canadian Chinese School of Theology at Tyndale Seminary (CCSTTS) and graduated in 2011. He started to serve in NYCBC as Pastor in June of the same year. Pastor Lionel enjoys swimming, travel, and reading
Miss Tiyah Mah was raised in Markham and is the eldest child in her family with a younger sister and brother. She was born into a Christian family and has been attending NYCBC since then. Tiyah accepted Christ as a young girl and was baptized here at NYCBC in 2021. In her free time, she loves playing sports, specifically ice hockey and softball, and has been the coach of our senior softball team, The Harbingers. Aside from this, she also loves kids, enjoys listening to music, watching dramas, and exploring cafes. In 2023, Tiyah completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Honours Psychology at the University of Waterloo.

Mrs. Estella Fung was born in Hong Kong. After completing her bachelor's degree in Information Systems, she worked in technology department in banks. She became Christian in 2011 and baptized in the year after. In her church in Hong Kong, she had been serving as an usher and Children Sunday School teacher for years. After arriving Toronto in 2022, Estella and her family have been attending NYCBC worship and serving in the usher team and fellowship. In 2024, she started to serve as Children Ministry Assistant (part time). In the leisure time, she treasures the time to enjoy the nature with her family and friends.
Bhagat Pun was born in India to a farming family that had migrated from Nepal. As a young boy, he worked on the family farm before seeking employment in urban areas to support both his education and his family financially. In 1995, his life took a significant turn when he encountered a group preaching the teachings of Jesus Christ, leading to a profound personal transformation from idol worship to worshipping Jesus. The gospel also impacted his family, including his father, who was a devout shaman. Following his conversion to Christianity, Bhagat pursued further education in a Bible school and served as a deacon and worship leader in a church. Upon relocating to Canada, he continued his academic journey at Tyndale University, majoring in pastoral ministry within the Bachelor of Religious Education program. Bhagat is married to Evy and is a proud father to two boys, Corin and Jared.
