The Joy of Knitting
New Experience during the Pandemic
Karen To - Knitting Club
In 2020, while everyone was preparing for a new decade, a pandemic disrupted the pace of people’s lives all over the world, and I have been staying home reluctantly since March.
In mid-June, the church provided the Zoom platform. With the arrangement by the teachers and students of Community Services, the online Knitting Club reopened on July 23! With excitement, everyone talked about the current situation. Several hardworking students even shared their finished products with everyone.
While we comfortably enjoyed our online class at home, our instructor, Grace, has a lot of new skills to prepare. She has to demonstrate in front of the camera, explain patiently, and pay attention to the progress of each student. She wants to make sure that every student can really learn the skills of knitting.
Although I enjoy learning online, I still hope that the pandemic will pass quickly so that everyone can return to the classroom and experience the fun of physical learning and interaction again!
How to Live during COVID-19?
Pauline Tam – Knitting Club
After returning from a trip in early February this year, Toronto was wary of those of us who returned home. In order to reassure the family and friends around me, I quarantined myself for two weeks. However, just after the quarantine was over, Toronto was in a tense situation because of COVID-19. Everyone stayed at home and only went out for grocery shopping. My friends said that they were bored. What they did everyday was watch mobile phones, watch computers, watch movies and eating three meals. They all gained weight.
But thank God, I don’t have much free time after my daily morning devotion, afternoon exercise and taking care of three meals a day. Before the pandemic, my Knitting Club instructor, Grace, introduced a few projects which I still haven't had the opportunity to work on. It was great that I could use the days at home to complete them.
During the pandemic, our excellent teacher Grace never forgets us, and often provides knitting projects via emails. If students have questions, she always explains in detail. Thank you, Grace! We will remember your hard work and love! In late July, the knitting club started to open classes online. Students shared their work online just like show-and-tell. We enjoyed the time very much. When encountering more difficult knitting methods, Grace will explain in detail and zoom in on her computer screen, enabling us to see even more clearly than before. Thank you, Grace, for your hard work!
Although it is unknown when we can get together again for class, our interests are the same. Thank God for allowing us to live a plenitude life during the pandemic.
Enjoy Knitting

A small ball of yarn, a bunch of colourful cotton thread, two knitting needles and a crochet needle can DIY your favorite knitting/crocheting work.
During the pandemic, the Church has not stopped its community services every Thursday. Friends of the Knitting Club continued to learn various knitting techniques and stitches through the teacher in Zoom classes. With close up demonstrations on computer, we were able to see the steps more clearly. Although there is no physical learning, online learning enables us to continue to weave various favourite work at home and also allows us to enjoy a time of gathering and sharing with a group of knitting friends. Everyone is excited to show their work in front of the camera. We continue to learn from each other and appreciate the knitting skills. We all look forward to a happy gathering every time.
