2023 Ministry Report

  1. The goals of the ministry group for the Year 2023

    • Through the Adult Sunday School curriculum, we sought to foster the spiritual growth of our congregation in the following areas:

      • God’s word: Encourage members of the ESC to read and meditate on God’s word daily with delight

      • Evangelism: Train and equip our congregation in their personal evangelism

      • Christian living: Bring God’s word and wisdom to bear on issues of every day life.

      • Public square: Consider God’s perspective on our culture and society

  2. The highlights of the activities for achieving the goals

    • We held the following classes:

      • God’s word: Lord’s Prayer, Habakkuk, Isaiah’s servant songs, 2 Timothy, and inductive Bible study

      • Evangelism: In partnership with ESC Local Outreach Ministry, Spiritual Conversations and Workplace Evangelism.

      • Christian living: Humanity defined by relationships, conflict resolution, gender identity, church conflict and the history of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists, Biblical Soul Care,

      • Public square: Redeeming Leadership Today- explaining and addressing authoritarianism in the world and the church, gender identity,

      • Missionary sharing: In partnership with Global Outreach Ministry, we heard from some of our ministry partners who work in mobilizing overseas ministries, international student ministry, Diaspora Church plant, outreach to sex workers, equipping preachers overseas, refugee ministry

  3. The results and some forward looking sharing

Aside from attendance, which has remained steady but still only reaches a fraction of our congregation, the longer term results of our work are difficult to measure. The evangelism classes have enhanced the outreach in our congregation, as individual members invite their friends, family, and colleagues to church events.

For 2024, we recruited additional ministry team members, Raymond Chiu and Kay Shen. As the committee broadens and deepens in its teaching experience, we pray that this will result in classes that provide a Bible-centred perspective on the many felt needs that are being expressed in feedback survey. We are looking to expand and equip our pool of teachers. We are taking measures to enhance the feedback for teachers both before and after the class.

Following Jesus requires more than just Sunday School classes once a week. It requires investment in personal relationships centered on the truth of God’s word, genuine love for each other, vulnerability, accountability, encouragement and rescue.  We hope to look at renewed ways to support effective discipleship, mentoring, caring, and shepherding among members of the congregation.

May God continue the work of love He began: washing and cleansing us with His word, and refining His church to be radiant, holy, blameless for the day He returns.
